Preface and Chapter 1 of the book is available for download as a PDF. The cover image shows a set of thunderclouds over the Amazon basin. The source for the cover image are photographs taken from the ISS and made available by NASA. The cover image is a combination of these two photographs: ISS020-E-47807 (a photo of the Amazon basin) and ISS022-E-6398. There are also tons of other fascinating images available on the NASA web site.
